MD Biomarkers Database and Visualization | DMD Biomarkers

Explore curated biomarkers data for Duchenne muscular dystrophy with filtering, visualization, and export features.
Keywords

DMD biomarkers, Duchenne biomarkers, proteins, mRNA, proteomics, Somascan, Affymetrix, mass spectrometry, TMT, RT-PCR, biomarker database

This is a free to use, central biomarker database which includes evidence from blood serum and muscle tissue . It provides easy access to cumulative knowledge in biomarkers for specific muscular dystrophies. The initial focus is on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) although other dystrophies will be added in the future.

The promise of biomarkers is immense, but often hampered by low powered analyses, especially in rare diseases like muscular dystrophies. The goal is to provide a searchable, living, resource to get an overview of current evidence around biomarkers, and to facilitate a nuanced meta-analysis of targets of interest.

A Queryable Molecular Database with mRNA and Protein Markers from Multiple Serum and Tissue Datasets for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Submitted.

Currently, this database includes data:
  • With a focus on serum proteins, but linked to muscle tissue biopsy based mRNA profiles.
  • Provided with external links to UniProt, QuickGO, Human Protein Atlas for each biomarker.
  • With information on the biomarker’s known involvement in other diseases and the MIM number.
  • Focused on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (to be expanded) and the following questions:
    • Which biomarkers behave similarly, i.e., have similar expression trends?
    • Which biomarkers are different between boys with DMD and unaffected controls in serum and tissue?
    • Which biomarkers respond to therapeutics, e.g., steroids?
    • Which biomarkers are associated with age?
    • Which biomarkers are associated with clinical outcomes?
  • On >6000 biomarker targets, with a large focus on circulating serum protein markers but also on tissue-based mRNAs.
  • From different technologies: mass spectrometry, aptamer-based protein screens, Affymetrix gene expression arrays, RT-PCR, etc.
  • More features are planned including inclusion of other muscular dystrophies.
